Ron from KME Sharpeners may have just saved me! Update pg. 3
« on: April 14, 2014, 08:32:00 PM »
......From hours and hours of unsuccessful sharpening of broadheads!
       :knothead:

If it's one thing that I can't do to save my life, it's sharpening a broadhead/knife. I literally spend hours trying to get them "hunt ready".

Well I finally "threw in the towel" and called Ron and boy am I thankful that I did. Talk about a helpful guy! He answered every question that I had, plus we had some time to chat about bowhunting.

With his help, I ordered everything that I'll need to hopefully get good at this. It's honestly been a pain for me and I regret waiting so long, I've just been so busy...

I also need to thank  TJ for convincing me to take this direction! Thanks again bro!

I'll be sure to keep the Gang posted on my broadhead/knife sharpening "journey"!

       :shaka:

Aloha!

Kevin,
I ordered the diamond knife sharpening system, the base, the new KME broadhead jaws and stones for my three blades.

I finally got Grizzlies 'Shaving Sharp' - along with a number of other 2 and three blade heads.

Ron is one of the good guys and the KME knife sharpener is the cat's meow of sharpeners! I have had several different sharpeners over the years (I too am VERY sharpening challenged and struggle to get a butter knife sharp) and the KME is the only thing I use now to sharpen my broadheads!

Ron and his sharpeners are the best. You won't get the same level of personal customer service any where else.

I recently bought the broadhead sharpening system at auction and I can't believe that I was actually able to survive without it.

So fast to achieve a great edge. Then it's even faster to re-sharpen after setting the edge .... just love it.

Word of advice, I found it helpful to first set the edge with a mill file on some of the two blades like magnus and zwickey that come really dull from the factory. Once the edge is set I move to coarse-fine stones.

Here's what I've been using in the past. Some days I did ok, but for the most part I still struggled...

ryan, you'll *LOVE* the kme, it's THAT good! i also use the diamond hones 'cause they don't need oil to lubricate, just spit works well.

i see ron every year at the whittingham shoot, and i'll see him in 2 weeks.

Yep. Ron is one of the good guys. I couldn't sharpen a broadhead before I got my KME.

No problem Ryan, it takes a sharpening challenged individual to know one. Haha. I sucked at it for years until Ron came along. My hunting heads are now very sharp thanks to him. As I told you, in my opinion the most important piece of gear for the bowhunter isn't a type of bow, arrow or stand, it is a KME. I am eager to hear your opinion.

TJ,
I'll be sure to keep everyone posted! Yes, I do agree about it being one of the most important tools.

It's one of the main reasons why I only shot "replacement style" blades, stainless blades that were very sharp from out of the package, or cut to tip 3 blades for years. I tried to sharpen 2 blades on and off for years, but it literally took me hours to get them to my satisfaction.

Now that I'm sold on VPAs, I need to find a better, more efficient way to get these things sharp.

Plus I think Staci will appreciate the fact that she'll be able to slice the tomatoes instead of smashing them.     :D

Well, if you're going to make my broadheads sharp enough to slice tomatoes, imagine what they'll do to the goats!   :biglaugh:
