Vortex doubler anyone used?
« on: April 25, 2014, 07:55:00 PM »
does anyone have or has tried the vortex bino lens doubler. just wondering do they work as promoted turning a 10x42 pair of binos into a temp 20x42 (1lens only) spotting scope? I would like any feed back good or bad on this product.

Thanks

I have used one on occasion, I would recommend a window mount for the binos, you would need to be very steady. It is very convenient though for quick spotting situations. I would add that the quality of product is a very good selling point, I use a few different scopes, and binos from Vortex, and have been more than happy with the company.
With any scope, as the magnification increases, the field of view will be limited with such a small objective lens, Something to think about.
The wishbone will never replace the backbone.

Doublers have been used for decades with 35mm cameras.  They increase magnification, cut light gathering ("f stop") by two or three stops (25%) and reduce clarity.

No such thing as a free lunch.

I had a zeiss one at one time. While the idea sounds good, I never found much use for it in practice.  Clarity and light gathering weren't good enough to tell me much more then the binos already had. Plus as mentioned you still need some way to steady the glass well enough to see anything.

I have one for my Swaravski 15x. The only time I use it is if I see something far away and I need to get a better look to decide if I want to make a stalk on it. I wouldn't use one to do general glassing with it.
