1st Michigan TG Bowhunt - Need ideas?
« on: September 21, 2007, 01:54:00 PM »
I was watching on the news last night that if our govenor shuts down the state department we will not be allowed to camp at the state forest camp grounds.  Any ideas what to do if this happens? I will start looking for other private campgrounds today but any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Not sure If I'll be able to scout around too much before the big weekend, my calander is filling fast.   Was the sign pretty good near the camp site, within walking distance?

I'll warn you, without power for my CPAP machine (Sleep Apnea), I've been known to snore pretty loud.  I'm just sayin...you've been warned   :biglaugh:

Hey Mike a friend of mine has a power convertor that hooks to your car battery so you can plug your Cpap machine into and it will run alnight!  I will borrow it from him, it works slicker than slick!

Sweet.  Thanks a lot.

I though about buying one of those, but I wasn't sure how long it would run w/o killing the battery.  I think I have an extra batt in the garage I can throw on the back of the truck just in case.

Lord knows I'd love to be up there. I used to hunt this area when I lived in Michigan and it is a truly beautiful place. Certainly the company would be worth the trip alone. God Bless you all, Keep you Safe in your travels and Grant you Good Hunting, Curtiss

Hey all,

Don't know if I'm going to be able to make it or not. I sure hope so. Anyway, just got back from our cabin up there and did a little scouting in the general vacinity of where you're going to be. Sign looks pretty good for this time of year up there. Doesn't seem to be too dry...good stalking, and looks like a great acorn crop this year too! Water levels in the creeks look at the normal level and mosquitoes and deer flies are as big as ever! Don't forget your Thermacells! Saw plenty of does and fawns at twilight. Only saw one buck, a spike in a grove of oaks. I didn't bust too much brush due to the fact that it was the youth deer weekend and I didn't want to screw up someone's hunt. Hope this helps a little.

I am going to be hunting in the UP that week with my brother.  Depending on how things are going up there, I may stop by for the weekend on my way home (or sooner if we can't find deer up there). So add me as a maybe.

Jeff,

If you would put me down as a maybe also. I'm still not sure, but I'd like to go if I can work it out. Can you email me a map of exactly where you're going to be? Tomahawk Lakes area right? The area I was in scouting was in the Canada Creek Ranch area, just across M-33.

Thanks,
Todd

I just saw this in the threads, I think I can take the time off for it, on his working part-time anyway, can I still get a deer license and how do I go about doing that, it would be about 500 mi. trip for me one way. But it would be a fun weekend. I do have camping gear, and a five degree sleeping bag, I do have a timberline base camp tent, it would sleep about six. But what I'd be too late for a deer license, was cost of a out-state license ? I'd like to get a doe, never hunted buck before anyway. I know going across the U. P. is what I'd have to do I'd been that route two other times to Alpena Michigan.

It would be just me, and less someone else wants to share a ride in a S 10 Chevy pickup from this area. I'm live the Minneapolis Minnesota area. Let me know if it's still possible.

It would be good if someone could PM me this information.

Thanks,
