Trying traditonal archery again want opinions
«

I want to give traditonal archery one more try. Shooting my compound just hasn't been as fun since I Shot and hunted with my longbow for 3 years. This is my second year back with conpound and something is missing.
I have a Bears Paw 64 inch longbow 60# @ 26 inches.
I realize now that the lonbow is to much weight for me and is one reason why i can't shoot it consitently. I got it out last week for the 1st time in 2 years and enjoyed myself while shooting it.
what ineed is advice on which bow to get. I learned from my mistake the last time and will not by a bow that i can't shoot one like it first. I live in ohio and am only aware of 2 places close enough for me to drive 2 to look at and shoot bows. Morrison archery, and zipper recuves.I live in southeastern ohio are there others that i dont know about? Are there any traditional shows coming up that are failry close that i could go to and shoot some bow. I'm not really sure wyhat i want but am leaning towar a take down with to sets of limbs. thanks scott

You won't find better man to work with than Bob morrison. I should be so lucky to live closer to him. Good luck to you. Jeff

Kevin, not sure if this is too far away but Striker bows is in Ohio and is a sponsor. His address is: Striker Traditional Archery is located at:
22 S. Main St. Minster, Ohio 45865 Personally I go no further than Morrison but that's just me

thanks for the replys. I'll get a hold of bob and see if we can work out a time to try his bows.
I have never heard of minister , Ohio will check to see how far it is away.
I'll check and see how far timberhawk archery is. I'm open to any and suggestions.
I thought about driving to 3 rivers and shooting some bows there.

If your considering driving alll the way to Three Rivers why not just drive to Kalamazoo this weekend for the expo. Lots of bowyers will be there with lots of bows for you to try out. I believe alll three of the bowyers listed will be there...or least they have been in the past. You can shoot them all in one trip.

Brandon Stahl is an Ohio-based bowyer with excellent products and service. His Wildcat T/D recurves are truly superb. He's a sponsor here as well:

Good luck, and welcome back!

Id diffiently try and get a custom recurve light enough to train with, right, 44- 50#...that way ya dont develope bad habits like short drawing or TP....there so many good bowyers now. But Id make sure it wasnt a production store bow...you can always buy used cheap bow on classified ads... I like a Rick Welch recurve...good luck..

bowhunterksb32- I'm not sure how much Neal charges, but if you like the longbow, you might want to contact him and see if he has any lighter limbs laying around. Good luck.

get the "push release DVD" and use this technique. You will have complete control and it will make you consistent!
Get the DVD first, before you buy a new bow.

Tecum-tha, where can you get the dvd?
Tyler it isn't a takedown. I'mnot dead set on a take down that just what i'm leaning toward mainly so i can get so sets of limbs. I would like to get limbs in the low 4o's and 50's.
herekimerhunter i'm going to get in contact with zipper to as he is closer than morrison archery and i have heard alot of great things about his bows and his service
barking mad i will see how far rose oak bows is from me.
lv2hunt, i couldn't get your link to work wheeling is about 2 1/2 hours

If you have the time, the expo in Kalamazoo, MI this weekend is a great place to see and shoot a bunch of bows from many of the best bowyers in the east. All the bowyers you mentioned will be there. It is well worth the drive and the overnight in a motel to have a hands on experience with so many options. Take your check book.

bowhenterksb32 - Here is what my link was referring to:
1ST ANNUAL TRADITIONAL & PRIMITIVE ARCHERY EXPO
McLure Conference Center • Wheeling, West Virginia
March 30, 31 & April 1, 2007
Hosted by: The Bowyer’s Journal™
PO Box 189 • Oakdale, PA 15071

You ought to able to look over a few bows there. I believe Bob Morrison is going to be there as well.
