Lost Count Of The Deer Ive Killed This Month
« on: May 20, 2014, 01:12:00 PM »
And the dreams are becoming more and more vivid to the point of waking up at the release of my string and being bummed cause its just a dream    :knothead:   Ive got a bad case of deer fever and its come earlier this year than ever I can remember.

Ive had a busy spring with lots of work related training and OT, renovations on my house and sons baseball but Im about to have some free time for scouting and  tree stand juggling soon. Im not big on turkey hunting, Id rather fish or chuck hunt if Im driving out to the farm but the one time I did I was covered in deer from 1st light tip noon and it put the fever in me bad.

Who else is sick like me and actively working on your deer hunting grounds and what are you doing?

365 days a year, Izzy.  It never stops.  Not a bad affliction to have, in my opinion.  Happy dream hunting.

I know what your going through. This weekend I'm going up to the lodge and start getting it ready for fall. I'm just pumped. I will be fixing tree stands (new straps), setting up a few hunting spots, making a small archery range, and other particulars to get it ready for archery season. As far as the archery/hunting feaver goes, I'm a sick man.

It never ends for me either. I just bought two new ladder stands and while I was supposed to be turkey hunting I was scouting for deer.

It is definitely an addiction.

Izzy,

I am with you.  I love hunting in general, especially elk, bear and whitetails, but whitetails are the ones I can chase more regularly.  This winter I was fortunate to be able to pick up a 100 acre piece of property and the fire has gotten very bad on deer.  The property is not in one of the bigger buck areas of Michigan and the deer density is not real high, but I have a place to manage as I see fit. I am planting trees, working on building the soil for plots, analyzing stand locations, checking cameras..........  It never ends and I love it.  If I lose that fire it will time to hang it up.

Oh man... it's hitting me early this year too!  Summer hasn't even arrived and I'm ready for Fall.

Visualization is an excellent way to mentally prepare for an activity. I also have mentally slipped one in the vitals of my targeted bucks many times since season ended.

I have my stands moved and only a few trails and shooting lanes to trim now that summer green up is here, come on August 15.

Just last night I had 2 bucks still in Velvet come past.  a Beautiful 8 point and a scrapper 1 point.

I killed the smaller one because it gave me  a better shot.  Waking up was the hardest part.

I'm right there with you Izzy.
Relax,

The thing that gets me this time of year is roadkills. Just saw 2 fresh ones today and the last one had a good start on his rack. Sad,sad, sad.

I Was Born Ready! Now, just to get up to my place and do some stump shooting along the deer trails... Those summer 3D shoots are only a quick fix, if ya know what I mean.

I don't think there's a day that goes by without me thinking of the next bow hunt.  Yes, I'm an addict and love it!

I can't say that the fire ever really goes out. I too have been dreaming of whitetails early this year. Last season was a wash in the whitetail woods. Too many obligations to my new home. A true blessing but man it has been work. I have been busy this spring. Hinge cutting some box elders around my sanctuarys, pushed some russian olives out to make some food plots bigger and better shaped. Sprayed some box elders and less desirable trees within a hard wood planting. Mowed clover and Alfalfa patches. Got soil ready for soy bean plots. and the list goes on and on. I still need to do so much more. I enjoy hunting season year round by managing my property. I guess thats why the fever for whitetails never really goes away! Great thread Izzy.
