Carpocalypse Now!
« on: May 21, 2014, 02:39:00 PM »
Finally, they've started moving inshore to my favorite bay!!! Only saw a few roll, most were belly to the bottom and the water is muddy. I shot at two, killed two with my new fishing set up, a 50# Montana. Only got pics of this big male.

Next week should be a hoot with the shallows slap full of slimy targets. Let the carpocalypse begin!

Izzy where in New York are you  seeing fish already, I went out for five hours on Monday in the finger lakes region and never saw a fish. Did you get the rain last week the we got here? My favorite lake to bow fish is up by about 2 feet and looks like a glass of chocolate milk, I couldn't even see a fish there unless it was half out of the water

I was out Scouting for fish before the opener last week.

I saw about 30 or 40 but only a few that would have been able to be shot at.

With the rains and Muddy water, they are definitely a little put off schedule but will be moving into the shallows quickly this weekend and after.

Next week Tuesday My friend and fellow trad ganger, Kat will be coming over.  Most of the fish we will see and shoot at are 10 lbs and under but it should be a target rich environment.

Just finished getting the bow ready.

Hopefully, with a little luck, I will be on an all night trip on may 31st.

Congrats Izzy on your fish!   :clapper:

Alex,  He is near Albany.

Not sure if he was on the river system sloughs or on ponds but they are starting to move in.

The area I saw them in was the old Erie canal (now closed to boat traffic).  The water warms up there faster than the Mohawk river.  Most of the fish I saw were sunning themselves in deeper water.  The shoot-able ones were in shallow water just at dusk feeding.

Im out on the eastern end of the Mohawk River. The fish have been starting up only to pull out again. Although we are a week or two behind schedule they're about to turn on big time.

Nice fish Izzy. The rain kind of swelled the river last weekend .  Hopefully I can make it out soon.

Yes, imagine that? My guess is to keep folks honest should they stumble upon a walleye spawn.   :dunno:

Got out last night for the 1st time since I shot the last 2. It was late , after 7:30 but I was given a reprieve from baseball chauffeuring and yard work after getting out of work late. Sometimes you gotta make hay while the sun shines.

For the 1st few minutes there was no activity but shortly there after I started seeing some fish rolling but way out in the channel. Soon they started rolling in the bay although infrequently. I waded out and spooked a few and with the low light and still cloudy water all I could see were plumes of mud whenever they darted off.

This one was move away quickly from right to left and started to get behind me when I swung with him and let loose hitting him about 10 yards out. 3 for 3 with the Montana long bow this year, Im digging it.

They're picking up steam and should be full spawning by next week here in the Mohawk River.
