Hanging up the long bow and the recurves.
« on: May 23, 2014, 09:48:00 PM »
Tiered of all this high tech stuff . Going to use my just my hickory stick this season. Going to be harder to hide ,longer bow . And going to have to take closer shots . 20 yards and under.   arrows going lots slower 160fps not 180-190 like the other bows. So going to have less shots. I need to get something bigger than a jack rabbit with this bow.

You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

My pignut hickory is nine pounds stiffer than my favorite glassed bow at its current tiller, but it shoots the same arrows the same speed with the same accuracy.  I am not sure that you are really giving up anything.  It has no trouble reaching out as far on deer as any of my bows.  It makes it hard to justify to my wife when I want to get a new bow, when the standard is a free chunk of southern pignut I got.

Thumper Dunker, when I saw the title of your post, you really had me going, for a minute. You are my, "coyote hero", and I have been living, vicariously, through your exploits, for some time. I was afraid you were quitting....

To my shame, I must confess that, for a moment, I found myself wondering if your post meant that your prophetic dog might be up for sale! (Sorry.)

It's a beautiful bow. I wish you every success with it.

I thought maybe you were gonna be picking up a slingshot, to try to give the ol' songdogs a sporting chance!

I'd wish you luck, but I'm pretty sure you don't need it. So I'll just wish you lots of fun!

Sweet move man!

Did you make the hickory stick?

If so let me warn ya.....
I've only hunted one season with a bow I made..did not get anything..but that's beside the point.

After the season my bow started to come apart a bit..too much to feel confident in it holding together.

now I HAVE to make another bow. After hunting for a year with a bow I made I have NO want to hunt with a bow made by someone else. I have a decent bear laying in the rack but it's not coming with me.
Really has me stuck..lol..the wallet is a little light right now...lol

Just a warning..the homemade bow bug might get ya...lol

The skill you have at it, I'm doubting any fewer kills. Great looking setup. Love the colors.
I may have to try this self bow thingy. I believe the satisfaction level would be through the roof.
Good Luck. We'll be watching...
