I recognize that "gap", a lot of animals naturally funnel through that spot. Some of them happen to be really close and spill blood when leaving that gap as well. Anybody who hunts with Kenny will/should have a blast. Great pics!! Henry

Can't wait to meet ya Chad!

Henry, how ya been?

I'm gonna have a ladder there again, and by request will turn it to the East a bit, because the deer cross that side quite a bit and can slip up on you pretty easily!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I thought that at first, but it may be warts? They would surely be down her back too if ticks?

Yes, those are ticks.  That's not even that bad of a load from what we're seeing this year.  Dad told me he had a picture of a doe that was solid on the backs of both ears and right down her neck and onto the back - with a defined line on at the top of each shoulder where the ticks ended - right where she could reach them.  The bucks don't seem as bad, but they groom each other when in bachelor groups (like you'll see horses do sometimes) and probably pull them off of each other some.  I've seen tick loads so high on summer deer I can't imagine it doesn't kill them.  Sometimes the ends of the deer's ears will die and turn black from very high tick loads on the ear bases.

Hey, Kenny - I haven't been out for a while - I hear the 17 yr cicadas are in - how is it in your area?  Good for the turks, I guess.

I believe, after saving the pic and zooming in, those are the fibrous tumors that deer get.

I've worked on tons of deer that are loaded with ticks, and behind the ears is a favorite spot because the skin is so thin, but you can bet if it's loaded behind one ear, the other would be loaded as well.

Those bumps are only behind the one ear, and awful big to be even fully engorged ticks.

My 3 cents    :campfire:
