Valuable information source...again.
« on: May 28, 2014, 01:35:00 PM »
Received a new 1-piece Maverick yesterday. As I was tuning to the arrows and broadheads/field tips I want to use I had to remove the very thick strike plate and shelf material.

It was very difficult to remove the old material and a lot of residue was left on the bow.  I tried to use friction and my thump to roll the gunk up. Drew blood before I gave up.

I did a search here and found a thread (of course) that dealt with the issue.

I tried 3 of the suggestions on that that thread:

1.WD 40 -- Didn't work on this.

2.Peanut butter -- Didn't work on this. (Although I think the feral cats will eat the peanut buttered sock I sacrificed -- wife always wonders why I have so many solo socks ...shhhh!.)

3. Bought "Goof Off" at the hardware store. Worked perfect!  Stuff was gone in 3-4 minutes.I used a cue tip and then an old sock. I used furniture wax to restore the satin finish.

I installed a thicker side plate and velcro shelf material. Shooting bullet holes in the paper now.

Thanks for those who take the time to post their solutions to age-old problems.

BTW, The Maverick is fantastic!  The best feeling grip of any bow I've owned.

Yep.  "Goof off" and "Goo Gone" both worked great for me.  Ken

Bowwild,
Is that a Fox Maverick you are talking about?
I have a High Sierra take down I got in a trade several years ago and they do have one of the best grips I ever put my hands on...Mine is 43#@28" and I am very impressed with that bow's speed for such a light weight..

If you can't find the info you need here, it probably doesn't exist.
