Leon Stewart Slammer Owners

Sent in a deposit for a LS Slammer this past week.  I have settled on the wood combination but still not sure on the bow length.  I have shot both a 66 and 64 with noticing little difference.  Got me wondering since I already have a 66" and 64" longbow do I want to consider a shorter one or stick with what will be the best shooting bow.  Looking for some comments from current slammer owners.

I have slammers 60"-66"  I like the 60 and 62" bows the most.  Your draw length might come into play along with hunting style.  really great bows.

I have owned a ton of Leon's bows over the years. The Stewart 64-66" Slammer and R/D longbows shoot the best for me. I have a few 62" Slammers and don't really like them as much as the 64-66" bows. I also like the one piece with some mass riser weight versus a lighter wood combination. For limb cores have Leon sandwich a bamboo core between two layers of Yew and tell me how you like it. By far this is the smoothest combination of core/limb woods that Leon builds.

The wood I am getting is Bamboo between Yew and Bolivian Rosewood.  A friend of mine bought the same bow 51# 66" at the Baltimore Bow man shoot.  I would have bought that one but since my friend is moving to AK next month I just went ahead and planned to order one.  Combo looked and shot great.  Another friend bought a 41# 64" Slammer from Leon also at the same time.  I could have bought both and not needed a another bow for the rest of my shooting time.

Leon crafts the quintessential hunting longbow.  They look right, feel right, and shoot right.  I still judge all other bows by his.  The only thing that has satisfied me on a similar level is a Jim Neaves / Centaur bow.  Leon knows a thing or two.  I think Leon got held up a little by getting ready for Baltimore but I am waiting on delivery of a 56" Lil Slammer 50-52@29.  I will post a full review.  To date I have owned a 66" and 68" version of his bows and both were as good as a bow gets IMHO.

I had a 64" that I could thread a needle with,ordered a 60" and that was a different story. Great bows.

There doesn't seem to be a set time..I think it depends on what time of year you order, what model, and if there are any big trad shows tugging at his attention.

Call him.  Super guy.  

He did a set of limbs for me, quoted 3-4 months.  Delivered 3 months.

He built my brother a bow, also nailed it, think he quoted 4-5 months.

My Lil slammer is almost ready, he quoted 6-7 months and we just reached the 6 month mark.

Leon is a man if his word and a great guy, brilliant artist.

I got to shoot a newly delivered slammer (to someone else) at BBTC but I forget the length but seemed to be around 66". It was about 48# and a sweet shooter. You should be happy with it.

I have a 64" Slammer, and a 66" R/D.  Both of them shoot terrific.  I think I prefer the Slammer, most days.

I have 66" and 64" Slammers, 3pc. takedowns. Both are very good shooters and are accurate!  I really don't notice much difference, other that the 64" is lower poundage. I also have a 62" Slammer Special and shoot it most of the time for 3D and hunting.  It is not quite as forgiving as the longer, heavier mass weight 3 pc. bows, but I love the Slammer Special!  All that said, if I was to purchase another bow from Leon, it would be a 64" Slammer 1-pc.  For me, a 64" seems to be best.  Good luck on your decision.

I have a slammer special w boo core and yew w Osage very sweet bow 62 in.  Only thing I would change is mass weight, I shoot heavier bows better. Leon will not disappoint and is a great guy to work with.
Does anyone have one of his one piece recurve? Been considering one which would have more mass to it, hopefully that would help my shooting....

I have a gorgeous LH 66" 52@28 yew backed, eucalyptus belly Stewart Slammer longbow that shoots smoothly and is pretty fast. Here are a couple of pix of the bow.

I have a 58" slammer special and it's smooth as silk. Definatley one of my favorite bows. I've never shot a longer version, but the 58" is so smooth and accurate that I don't see the need.

That is a sweet looking bow there Suburban .  Now that I saw it I need to make sure Leon uses brown on the riser grip vice Black.

I have a 68" Slammer that is a very smooth shooting bow.  I also had Leon's R/D bow, which is a fine bow, but I prefer the Slammer.
