I'm scheduled for a new knee replacement the end of June.  Looking forward to Walking vs Hobbling.    The summer will be a bit of a bust but hopefully it will be settled in by fall...Atlantic Salmon & Deer without pain.

Good luck Jeff ... My hunting partner had both of his knees done last year. One in Feb and the other in June. We went late deer in November and he was getting around very well then and he is a hiking machine now, hiking the mountains looking for sheds pain free. I had a complete ankle replacement last July and just had my other one done in early May. I have four more weeks before I can put my foot down and walk on the latest one. Not having the constant pain of arthritis is like being born again .. I wish you the very best outcome.

Good Luck!  I've been waiting years for my dr. to tell me the same thing at one of my annual checkups.  Last year he said that he didn't think I'd out live my knees.  I don't know if that's good news or bad.  LOL

Jeff, I went through it on my right knee and am considering my left knee. I don't think the left one needs replacing yet, but my Ortho surgeon needs to make another payment on his yacht, so he thinks I do.

The operation is obviously completely painless, since you will sleep through it. The next few weeks will be anything but painless, with PT to keep the joint moving and increase the range of movement.

A couple of weeks of that is nothing compared to waiting a whole summer for deer season to start   :)

You will be glad you had it done and can walk painlessly through the woods again. One of the guys in my shooting club had both his knees replaced at the same time and was driving a week later. He's a lot tougher than I, though.

Nothing in that surgery will prevent you from posting pics on the Knifemakers forum, so I assume we can look forward to seeing a lot more of your work.

I had my right knee replaced in Feb. this year. The first week or so isn't alot of fun,(I ditched the pain pills after 1 week cause they had me doing/saying strange things)but I did all the therapy & worked hard at it-results were I was walking w/o any crutches or cane in 3 weeks. The therapist said I should be a posterboy for knee replacement. After surgery just grit your teeth & tell yourself "I'm gonna do this" & do all the therapy & continue at home. You will be through the pain & getting better every day. Hang tough!

I know it is a common procedure plus it's great to live in an era where you can order up new parts.  My knees come from Chuck Taylor high tops & basketball through college and some industrial ball after that.  I knew there would be guys here walking with titanium & polymer before me.  Thanks for all your advise & well wishes.

You'll be fine brother! I've worked with lots of people that have had one or both knees replaced. And the only thing they wish they didn't do is put it off as long as they did. Recovery should be a snap for you as you are pretty fit to begin with.  As huntmaster70 said the first week is not fun. But if you get right to it and are diligent with you're therapy you'll be ready for the fall!
Best of luck either way!
