Howard Hill shooters, question on draw weight ...

The ever-present desire for a HH bow has moved from the back of my brain to the front (again).

I've read a few times where Hill shooters remark that their HH bows seem to draw easier than their marked weight (maybe a function of smooth draw and long limbs?).

Anyhow, the longest bow I have is 64" ... the HH would be 68" - 70".  I'd guess the longer bow would feel more smooth, but would the apparent draw weight seem less?

So, does your HH feel the same as other bows you have of the same draw weight?

I love my HH Red Man... If I were you, I would call or e-mail Craig at HH Archery and talk to him about what you like/want.  He is a super person and will keep you out of trouble.  I draw exactly 28" and shoot a 66" bow at 64#.  Correct brace hight and arrow weight are critical on Hill Bow's. They love heavy arrows... I shoot 700gr + and my "point on" is about 55yrds.  My 4 blade Z's punch through anything I will ever hunt.

My Owl is marked 54# at 28'' it dose seem like it is easer to draw than other bows that I have in that weight range. I only started shooting Hill's so my experience is limited to what I have. I have 3 Hill's 47 #, 50 # and 54 # and all draw smooth. I have a used Jerry Hill coming marked 60 # at 28, might be able to tell more after I get that one.....stabow

I'll second the love for the redman mine is 47# @27 64" my big five is 48# @28 both are smooth they feel about the same when i draw them back, but the redman outperforms the big five.

It will be smooth but at the end X# lbs is still X# lbs that you will be holding. Talk to Craig, don't get it too short for your draw length, and at a comfortable weight for you, dedicate yourself to learning to shoot the straight limb longbow if you haven't already, and you won't be disappointed - they are GREAT bows!
