1964 Bear Kodiak
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:31:00 PM »
Hello,

I am new to traditional archery and I just picked up a nice 1964 Bear Kodiak recurve.  There is a + sign stamped into the last two numbers of the bow's ID.  Does anyone know what this might mean?  What brace height should this bow have?  Thank you.

John

If it is stamped near the poundage number, the x or xxs stand for poundage over or under the marked weight.  For example 45x# equals 46# draw. x45# is 44# draw, and so on.

If it's stamped with a star, I believe that means it was sent back to the factory for some work.

All kinds of theories for the stars, 2s and + found on many old Bears. I like the one that the bows were end of the model left overs sold at a discount that were marked by the Bear sales rep with a stamp the best. Just seems the most logical to me.

I would start out at 8" on brace for the Kodiak and go up or down from there.
