Glue for inserts?
« on: June 10, 2014, 09:16:00 AM »
Last time I glued in some insets I used I think it was called goat glue. Worked great but very expensive. What are some other glues that work that I can use. Thanks

For aluminum and wood I use a hot melt(not Ferr-l-tite),for carbon I use a slow cure 24 hr. two part epoxy.

I'm using the round cylinder block shaped hot melt glue from Kustom King Archery. I lasts for years and it's a much softer (less brittle than Ferrule-Tite). I use it on wood arrows or with my Easton Axis carbon inserts with no problems whatsoever.  It allows me to change out the inserts on the carbons if needed.

Ferr-L-Tite low temp.
 http://www.3riversarchery.com/Bohning+Ferr-L-Tite+Cool+Flex+Insert+Glue_i4191-01_baseitem.html
It is the blue stick stuff.  Great for carbons.  You heat the insert, apply a bit of glue and insert into the arrow.  If you want to remove them or turn them for blade alignment, heat the threads and shank of the point and screw into the insert.  The heat melts the glue and you can pull or turn them.  No need to apply heat directly to the arrow shaft and risk damage to the carbon arrow.  We used them on various wood arrows and so long as you clean the oil from inside new points, they don't pull out in the targets.

Big Jim sells a great glue. Go to his site and watch his video and see how easy it is to use, and how strong it holds.

When I order from Big Jim, I let him do the gluing, so it is his hot melt. When I have to do it myself, I use two parts epoxy with a cure of 24 hours. Works great too!
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

Fer-l-tite for aluminum and Insert Iron for carbon. Both with excellent results.

I need to try Big Jim's glue

I've tried Gorilla Glue and it was ok. Been using epoxy and it's the strongest thing I've tried but it's basically permanent

I use garden variety hot glue sticks from the crafts section.
