125gr. screw-in 2 blade options
« on: June 15, 2014, 06:28:00 AM »
Not a lot of options in the 2-blade 125-145 screw-in range.  Anybody tried the new Badger single bevels yet?  Does Magnus still make the 125 gr. vented 2 blade?

Magnus is still around, just got bought out.  Stingers or Buzzcuts are hard to beat in 125g 2blade.  Silverflames are expensive but effing sharp.

125gr Magnus Stingers are phenomenal.

Old Bear Razorheads with the adapter will be around 145gr. So will the 70s/early 80s stainless steel/blue ferrule version.

Zwickey Eskilites (110gr glue on) with an adapter will be in the 145ish range also but they are not vented.

Bud,
LOL, I just remembered I think you ended up with the vented Magnus 125gr screw-ins that used to kill my first (and still biggest bodied)buck with a long bow.  It was a bit further than I was confident with and a bit too much angling away.  I was just going to draw and "count coup" on it, but when I hit anchor the arrow was gone before I realized it.  The spot was right, but I saw feathers clearing sticking up out from it's back and I was sick until I got down.  I had enough penetration to get the far lung and it looked like somebody went down through the woods with blood in a garden sprayer.  Every time the deer exhaled there was a fine mist covering everything and it's still holds the record for easiest blood trail I ever had (exempting those that went down in sight). It amazingly went 300+ yds on one lung, but I had blood the whole way and it was thankfully all downhill!

I killed my first 2 bulls with screw in 125 Magnus unvented broadheads.  Complete penetration both bulls dead within 4 leaps.  I still shoot them but I use 125 steel adapters for a total weight of 250

Bud,
I forgotten they were non-vented. The ones you have were what I started out with, then purposely made a shaft change to a stiffer arrow requiring a bit heavier point in an effort to get my total weight up around 10 gpp.  I've mostly used heads in the 150-175 range since, but it appears I may be drawing a tad longer since I've come out of winter hibernation and the old muscles have loosened up.  Re-checked my tune and my shafts are showing a bit weak, so I dropped to 125 gr. field points and they're flying much better.

the new Badger heads fly like darts! I really like them for that reason, since this is the first year I have tried them I can't speak (yet) to how well they perform on game, I will say that the videos on ther web-site are VERY impressive

I'd love to try the badgers unfortunately they are considered a barbed head and are illegal here in MN.    :(
