Ugly Bow Thread
« on: June 17, 2014, 11:29:00 PM »
I have a Ben Pearson Spoiler. It's pretty dang ugly. But I guess, like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder. I don't be holdn' this one much. But I do shoot it on occasion.

Anyone else have to a not-so-purty bow that they just have to hang onto?

Come on guys, let's see'um...

Hmmm...looks like zebrawood to me...and I beam construction...nothing ugly about that bow to my eyes...and besides, when was the last time you took a real close look at a bow while your were drawing and loosing an arrow...I do not have any picture capability but I have a bow that others have judged to be ugly...I glued a bunch of deer hide on it rather haphazardly one day when I had nothing better to do...but that bow is a swan in ugly duckling garb because underneath is a 1961 Kodiak Special

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

That's the point. I own'em to shoot'em. I just have too many,=...I mean, not enough time  ;)

I got this one off fleabay for  steal. It ain't going anywhere. It'll be mine for a looooong time.

No one else with a beat up favorite or just and old shooter that's not a real looker anymore?

Nope, all my bows are perty (except for a few very plain, unsexy bows)!!!

I think there may be some closeted ugly bow owners out there....come on guys....it's OK to admit it.

The Spoiler shoots well. The I beam two-tone is the ugly for me. And somewhat the riser shape. But bows of that era took on some strange lines for sure.

None of your bows would fit this category Mike. I'm guessing folks don't want to make any bowyers mad. I still believe there are some out there.... :)  I'll bet Mr. Pearson would think this'un is purty. I have a few bows that aren't lookers, but are definitely shooters. This one takes the award though.

ok I apologize to the bowyers and owners, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If they are shooters I would be glad to give them a try.

Somebody's gonna get in trouble with this one!  Kind of like an "ugly girlfriend" thread.

Bit I want to see some more pics!

I got one to beat all of yours.  I keep a PVC bow that easily handles a 36" draw but looks like trash.  Think my wife's gonna take it from me, she already got me to make her some thumb rings for it.

I'll find a pic and post it-I think it'll win your ugly bow award.

Here it is, it shoots fine, but wow it's ugly.

OK, I'll play. This is an old lemonwood(?) self bow I picked up a few years ago. It exploded on me the first time I shot it, gave away at the glue lines. Not much finish left on the old girl anyway, so I reglued it, clamped it overnight, and wrapped it with leather lace. It shoots now, but it makes me a little nervous, and I ain't scared o' nuthin'.
