I have been to several 3d shoots ( setup for compound shooters ) in my area and each time I attend one I always have some of the shooters asking me questions about my selected gear.
I had one gentleman ask me yesterday " How many pounds is that bow?'
I answered " 61 pounds" His reply was " those limbs are so thin that I didn't think stick bows could go up that high in poundage".
After a few more targets, I had another gentleman come up and ask me..." You can actually hunt and kill something with that thing?"
I replied.."yes". He then asked me "ok, but how far can you shoot with that thing?!" My reply was "It all depends on how comfortable I am when the opportunity presents itself".
I kept thinking about what I can do to "give an education" to those who are curious and don't have an understanding about traditional archery.
After I was done shooting, I had a brat and a soda at the clubhouse. As I sat there alone I had a gentleman approach me asking more questions. I thought.."PERFECT! now is the time for me to give someone a better understanding about tradional archery".
In about an hour and a half I had about 7 guys sitting around asking questions, and myself happily answering them. Today I decided to go back to shoot and the same gentleman confronted me and I was there for 2 more hours talking with him.
After it was all said and done, He asked me "what can we do to make this coarse more friendly to traditional archers? We would like to start and make it more inviting to Traditional archers".
After I made some suggestions we shook hands and as I started walking away when he said "hey Rick, I have a friend that does a local radio show on archery and bow hunting, would you be interested in coming on to do a segment on Traditional archery to explain what its all about?"
My reply was "absolutely!". We exchanged phone numbers and as I was walking away I had a smile on my face realizing that I have been just given an opportunity to give other archers an education about Traditional archery and to tell them about joy of hunting and shooting with the simple stick and string....
