I don't even know where to start... Epic. My nephew tagged along with me for the trip and we had an absolutely phenomenal time!
I can't say enough about it! This is my first guided hunt and Jerry epitomizes what I would picture a bear guide being in my mind! He is a terrific host and has some pretty hilarious stories. An absolute pleasure to be around. He can also be a stoic fella and the room quiets when he speaks. Its for good reason because everything he said proved itself to be spot on repeatedly. For example the best example being when he told us to snap a twig if a bear gives us grief. When the first bear to try and explore our brush blind with us in it(yep, we had gooks in the wire more than once) was coming in, i remembered Jerry saying to snap a twig, so I did. That bear boogied on out of there in a hurry. Well that was a confidence builder so it wasn't so bad when the second one tried. When the boar charged us from behind it was a little unnerving and we snapped a big stick instead of a twig and it meandered off. Thats right we were charged too! It was epic and by far the most fun we have ever had! My nephew and I will talk and laugh about this hunt for years!
I should have read between the lines when Jerry said he can never get anyone to hunt off the ground without a blind other than himself. I am glad we didn't catch that hint and can talk about our adventure for a lifetime!
Jerry's trailing dog "Bear" was a joy of a dog to be around also. Very well mannered and extremely good at his job, especially since he's only 9 months old.
The camp was composed of some of the finest men a person could ask to share a camp with! I made a few relationships that I believe will last, with people that I am proud to call friend. Unfortunately I didn't have the good sense to get picks with them all. Here is a pick with my nephew and myself with "Uncle John".
Heres my nephew with what he calls the "Mastigouche syndrome". He was wore slap out on the drive home.
He sat every hunt with me, and is already saving his money so we can go again. I only regret that I can't do it every year!
I had the pleasure of killing a beautiful sow and the honor of doing so in a camp with a terrific guide and exceptionally wonderful company. A man can't ask for more. This is my first trad critter by the way.
