Fletching Removal? Beman Centershots
«

I shoot the GT trads and regular black shafts and have always just used a knife to strip the fletching if they needed refletched.
I'm refletching some Beman Centershots for a buddy and have noticed when removing the glue with my knife some of the actual wood grain finish is coming off. Never had that problem with the gold tips. Do you guys have any suggestions on a better way to remove the fletchings without removing the wood grain finish?

I have used a potato peeler on other carbons.

All you can really do is to be careful in scraping off the old feathers.Thats why I always use arrow wraps on my carbon especially my woodgrain carbons. It makes it so much easier to redo them without having to scrap feathers off the shaft. It is very easy to gouge the woodgrain finish.

All of my traditional shafts get wraps for the second fletch job for this very reason.

That happened to me too. I contacted Beman and they replaced one shaft. I told them the finish came off easily unlike previous other shafts where the finish seemed more durable. I now use wraps on them and would suggest you do the same. Otherwise you will ruin the shaft finish when you remove the old fletching.
Good luck

If you use Bohning Fletching Tape you do not have any removal problems. A thorough wipe down with a clean soft cotton cloth before fletching is all that is needed, a spot of Duco Adhesive on the front and back of the fletching keeps it there and can be popped off with your fingernail or a butter knife if you re-fletch. If you want to use a cleaner, 91% Isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth works.
