Quieting my KMag

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for Quieting a Bear Kodiak Magnum? I really like shooting my kmag and plan on hunting with it, but it's quite a bit louder than my other recurves. I currently have rubber cat whiskers on the string, would some wool yarn balls work better?

Wool puffs and wrap the loops. I do it to all my recurves.

If it's a Fast Flight string get a good B50-B55 string, the difference in speed is less than the difference in a normal persons release.  Also, the brace height makes all the difference in the world.  Begin twisting your string up a couple of twist at a time and you'll hit the "sweet spot".  Not only is this spot the quietest but it will also give you the best arrow flight.

Wool or yarn puffs.

Wrap the string at the loop as it goes down past the string groove on the limb. (Bowhush)

 

Velcro loop sticky pads on the string grooves.

A correct brace and arrow weight is also a must. I have mine pretty quiet, but all these things contribute to making it as quiet as possible.

Bow Hush and Hush Puppies and correct brace height were the keys to making my Kmag super quiet. Here's my recipe:

1) Set nock point and tune to proper arrows.
2) Adjust brace height to quietest point within recommended brace height range.
3) Add hush puppies and bow hush (I've never noticed enough change in arrow tune to make a difference for 2 and 3 above for me.

Write down the brace and nock point position on a card for future reference.  That's it.

Can you pin-point the cause of the noise?  That will help to determine what needs to be done to fix it.

One thing that will help any bow is work on your release.  The better your release, the quieter the shot.

A well made string will generally be quieter than a poorly made one, regardless of the material.

Silencer placement is as important, if not moreso, than silencer material.  Do a search on "heterodyning".

If you use cat whiskers, don't leave them too long.  They will slap and make their own noise.  Wool puffs left too long make a pop, at least on some bows.

Make changes in small increments.  I've found short bows to be more finicky when it comes to tuning.  If you over-adjust you may miss the sweet spot completely.

I've only owned one bow that did not benefit from Limbsavers stuck on at the fade outs on the belly side of the bow.  Some say it isn't traditional, but they are forgetting that their bow is fiberglass and epoxy.  I owned a Kodiak Mag and loved shooting it after I put the Limbsavers on.

Cat whiskers came off and out came the wool yarn, being it's an older kmag I already had a B50 string on it, so I wrapped the string at the loops and created some yarn puff silencers with it. Still messing with brace height, it's certainly much quieter than it was    Thanks TGer's!

Try the Simms Limb Savers.  Ugly as sin, but they were on a set of Black Max limbs I bought and they are much quieter than the other sets.

I shoot one three under around 7.5 brace, it's as quiet as any bow. I'm using cat whiskers also.
