MacAlester bound.....
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:38:00 AM »
Well i drew a MacAlester hunt this year. Boggy area Nov.14-16. Ive been in 4-5 times in the last 30 years so I know whats there. I've always at least seen good bucks. So I'll be a happy camper, literally!

I'll be going alone though as my boys and I couldn't together at application time. So if any other tradgangers get drawn that wknd let me know!

Didn't get that weekend but I am more than grateful to get an opportunity to hunt the place. I'll be hunting Deer Creek Oct. 24-26. Good luck to both of you! Sounds like you will both be hunting great weekends for some rut activity...

Didn't draw either.   I haven't drawn a hunt since 2009 but that was a pronghorn tag in Texas Co, and I dew an elk back in 2001 so I can't complain.

Where is a good place to stay close by if you don't have a camper?

Rent one from mcaap, pretty cheap and located on the property.  Use to be...  the earliest day that you could call and reserve one was 45 day before your hunt.  But call ahead of that and get the lowdown on the current rules.  Once you figure that out, DON'T waste any time because most get reserved within the first day (of the 45 day mark).  Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

No luck for my group. Congrats to everyone who did!

I am McAlester bound for the first time as well. Drew Hominy Oct 24-26th. What is the best source for maps? Are climbing stands beneficial or should I plan to hunt from the ground? All advice would be appreciated.

I would defiantly take my climbing stand with me, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I hunted out of mine last year.

Pa Pa D Take your climber. I haven't hunted Hominy but I have hunted Deer Creek and Boggy. You should be able to find a tree to use for your climber. I take a climber, a hang on, and a ground blind. I want to be able to set up where the sign is. Never hurts to have different options.
