I love these threads. I like the idea of ground hunting much more than trees. If I owned my own property I would probably construct a bunch of stands and litter the property with them so I had many options. But I hunt on post so sometimes the areas I want to hunt are closed. Climbers make the most sense but if I end up wanting/needing to re-locate I dont like messing with them. I think this year I may try a leafy ghillie. The one I have now is a burlap one made by a buddy who was a sniper. Things is brutally hot and bulky - plus I look like a swamp beast, im afraid someone is going to pop me in order to get on the news.

do a little of both, no reason you can't,  There are lots of places that trees are just not available, but ground stands are.  And frankly, a lot of places that trees are right there but I like the ground anyway. I just cleared out one of my ground blinds today, can you tell I am a bit prejudiced ?

95% of the time I will be on the ground. The times that I will be using a stand I will be less than 7 ft high.

There are places I hunt where you have to get up for the shooting lanes. Sometimes only four or five ft will make the difference.

I love hunting hill country but plan to hunt a lot more swamp edge until my shooting improves. Thick and close.

I love the view from hunting from a stand, but in the last 6 eyars have grown a passion for hunting off the ground, especially on public land.  I usually go out this time of year and just kinda set up make shift forts, like when was a kid (old I know).

I'm in the tree 99% of the time but this year I'd like to try the ground a little more. I found a comfortable ground seat, the top of my lone wolf hand climber stand.

Ha, where did you get that idea from?

Ditto! I too live in the mountains of western NC and the swirling winds around these hollers and hills are relentless. Ground hunting means moving constantly. While I will hunt from the ground occasionally, I prefer 15-20 ft up a tree.

Love my ground hunting. Just ordered a ASAT leafy suit today, pretty excited to try it out.

but have to say that ground is where my heart is

But the wind swirls a lot where I hunt so, ive gotten busted a time or two.
