modified grizzly broadhead

how do you modify the grizzly broadhead to the 1" diameter dr. ashby suggest without a grinding machine that could affect its hardness

You can hand sharpen it away until you hit the width you want or grind it down with a power tool. There are no other options.

The new grizzly heads are far better then the ones that Ashby was dealing with back when.  I'd leave them alone and prosper rather then trying too modify them.

I agree.The Grizzlys have never been better,especially the bevel grind which you will be destroying and have to duplicate-just to get less cutting width.Doc Ashby was using them on water buffalo.If you are hunting North American game you will be fine and should appreciate the extra cutting width.I use them as is and have no trouble getting pass throughs with low 50 weight bows.

A number of states require a MINIMUM of 1 1/8" cutting edge width. If I understand the Topic Post correctly, reducing that to 1" width will put you in violation of those state's regulations.

unless you are shooting through 4 feet of hippo or elephant that extra 1/8 inch isnt going to make any real difference..............

The old Grizzlies were deadly and so are the new ones. It is hard to know how much more deadly they are for me on whitetails, they seem work about the same so far. HOwever, the new version is easier to sharpen for me.

agree just keep them new and you will be impressed at how far they are sticking in the ground after a pass thru.

I just got 6 from big Jim's this week and I'm impressed. They are a good bang for the buck, have been easy to sharpen and shoot really well.

narrowing them would place the tip closer to the ferrule pressing, making them more like a tuffhead.
