New Elkheart (finished pics)
« on: August 10, 2014, 12:28:00 PM »
Hey all,
Thought I would share with you my new toy.  Got on the list for a Javaman Elkheart some time ago.  For those of you that know Gregg...he's awesome to work with.
I wanted a dark brown bow and we found some great mango veneers.  From there we had many discussions about riser, overlay, tips...and construction.  Gregg is a patient man!

Here is the start...
Mango looks kinda plain but under glass...wow.

Riser choice was Wenge.

New Ibeam take down construction

More to come....

I like where this is going!
Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

Beautiful!!  Love the I-beam construction technique.  Love the wood choices, Wenge is one of my favorite woods.  Yup Gregg is a pleasure.  As I have said before, there are keeper bows and keeper bowyers...Gregg builds the former and IS the latter.  Can't wait to see finished pics.

Ok.  Her e is the finished product.  I have a few Shrew CH's and Helms in grey, tan, red, etc. But I told my bride that I really "needed" a dark brown model to complete the set.
Thrilled with the finished look,.....but even better is just as all Gregg's bows she is smooth and quiet as ever.

Here she is with the St. Jude's quiver from Far West.  Bid and won with this bow in mind.

Man, that is just a work of art!

If I could shoot these well (which I've tried but can't), I'd have to order one after seeing these pics.  Gregg builds a great bow!

The Elkheart is an amazing little bow.  Archie I dunno if you shot a 1pc or 2pc, but from my experimentation the 2pc is absolutely key.  That extra mass from the Bow-bolt and any phenolic in the riser, whether half, I-beam or solid when combined with the forward handle design just makes these bows perform like a bow 6-8" longer.  I have gotten so use to my Elkheart now that when I shoot now I don't even realize its short anymore.
