Black Widow Shooters
« on: August 12, 2014, 10:49:00 PM »
I have a Black Widow MAIII that is #53@28 and I am curious to know what spine arrows everyone shoots around this poundage. If you don't mind, post your Model, poundage, draw length, and arrows, and also, if you know, type of string(FF12strand)

If you are shooting with carbons you will need either a 500 or 400 (easton) depending on how far you actually draw.

PSA II marked 51#@27.5". I draw to 30,so about 56-57#. I shoot 30.75" Axis 400's with 75 gr inserts and 100 gr tips. String is 18 strand BCY-X padded to 24 in the loops with B-50. I have found the arrows still show a little weak, however moving the spider silencers down the string seemed to slow it down enough to straighten the arrow out nicely with a bare shaft.

I shoot a 56" PCH, a high 56# at my 28.5" draw, 12 strand Rhino string. I shoot Arrow Dynamics Trad HeavyHunters, cut 29.5" with 200gr up front. AD shafts tend to fly well from anything within spine range by simply tuning with point weight, at least for me they do. But I'm planning on getting some FMJ's and using the 75gr insert with 200gr point weight, and I bet I'll end up with the .340's.

Out of my 55# MAII I shot 2018's cut to 29 1/2" ... they shot REALLY good, my draw is 28" and I shot FF strings ... for carbon I shot CE 250's cut at 30"

I shot a variety of 125 to 145 grn BH'ds all shot well

I also could shoot 2020's if I really wanted to knock something over in it's tracks

The MA series of BW's was by far my favorite, great shooters, tough as nails and the most quiet shooters with a pair of cat whiskers. For some stupid reason I sold them all    :knothead:    :knothead:

Out of both my bows listed below 2018's with 145gr up front or 2020's with 175gr up front. 28" arrows.

MAII 60#@28", drawn to 27", AD Hammerhead Trad shafts  cut 29.5" w/ 300gr. up front, standard aluminum insert, 3 5 inch RW fletch.  More often than not, GT 55/75XT, aluminum insert, 145 grains up front cut to 29"w/3grain weight tubes installed. Also, Full Metal Jacket Dangerous Game 300 shafts cut to 30.5" w/ 75 grain insert and 145 grain up front and 3 5" RW fletch.  All fly like darts for me.

My PCH is 51@28" and I shoot 3555s cut to 29 1/2" with 225 grains up front.  I also shot those out of the MAII, they were fletched with 3 5" feathers.  I have some 5575s that I also shot out of each of them that are cut to 30" and used 125 grain tip with the MAII, and switched to the 225 grains with my PCH.  Both flew great out of both bows.
Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

I am completely amazed at how you guys shoot .400 and .500 spined arrows out of #50+ bows. I CANNOT get a beeman mfx .340 to show stiff that is cut to 30.5" with standard insert(around 20 grains) and a 175 grain head.

Build a new string for it(14 strand BCY-x) and it made my arrows even weaker. Guess I'm going to have to go back to my other string.

Agreed. I'm shooting goldtip 7595 trads with my PSA, 30" long with 200 up front. 59# at my 28" draw, with an 8 strand SBD. It seems like every thing I try is too weak. Might be a form issue, but it shoots and bare shafts quite well.

Shooting the PCH-X in my signature, draw is 27 1/2", 29" Gold Tip 5575s with 3 - 5" feathers, 100 grain brass insert, any point from 125-175 grain. 8 strand FF bikini string with rubber cat whiskers (4).

They fly great and bare shaft well.

62" PLx 60# @ 28" drawn to 27.5" I am shooting arrow dynamics trad lights with 75 grain grizzly stick brass inserts and 200 grain points. The Trad lights have a spine deflection of .375 pretty close to a Cx heritage 250.
