I grew up around bows with sight pins. I never spent the money on them, didn't think about them much.
The only thing that keeps me from using them is that they become useless unless you shoot the bow with the exact cant each time. For hunting, that's an elimination factor, for me.

You're only cheating if you think you are

The problem with the sight pin is bow cant. At least that's how I understand it.
Standing erect with a pretty vertical bow at the range is one thing. Shoot that same setup bending around a tree/ leaning over from an elevated tree stand/ kneeling during a stalk/ etc and the game changes. Just food for thought.

Once heard Fred Bear taped a match stick to his bow for sights, don't know if it is true though.

I used to use a single pin. Had a deer @ one yard put thee pin on her shoulder & released. That pin blocked my sight of the thin branch directly between my broadhead & that deer. the arrow hung on the end of that cut off branch by the bleeder. I don't use a pin anymore.

If shooting with a pin makes you that much more accurate, then continue using the pin. I would also practice on a deer 3D target out to 30 yds. This way you know exactly where to place the pin to get that arrow in the vitals.

Jack Howard had an excellent article which decribed his sighting system. It was for a multi pin sight but it had good info if you can find it online.

I remember reading years ago about a bowhunter who used a pencil eraser, the rectangular kind that kids hold in their hand to use; anyway this bowhunter taped the eraser to the back of his bow's sight window and then stuck a push pin in the side of the eraser. He was able to remove the pin and reposition it higher or lower until he had his set up sighted in. He used only one pin but stated that a person could use more if they were so inclined.
