Etolin Island /Wrangell Island
«

Will be traveling up there in Late Sept. early Oct. Looking for any advise. Is hunting for elk up there the same as hunting in the lower west?
What to expect as far as weather? Black Bear population? Blacktail?
Thanks
Gilbert

I have no idea but please take lots and lots of pictures and do a picture thread or maybe upload them to photo bucket and link the whole photo gallery and tell us all about it! I'm not much for going out of state to hunt but your trip sounds neat!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

Thanks for the info. I heard that it was a tough hunt. I'm looking forward to the scenery as much as the hunt. I hoping to do a little black bear hunting and some fishing on this trip.

do you have a packer crew?
Fish are down low, you'll be up high...waaaay up high lol. Plan extra days if you are serious about fish. Silvers should be done by than so dollies/cuts? Or go on a charter for winter kings and slime rockets.
Bears should be on the salmon streams.

"Wet, thick, wet, windy, cold & wet."
Wow! It should be an great adventure in some beautiful country. It sounds like you might need some wool, serious rain gear, some rubber boots, and some strategy for keeping your fletching dry. Hope to read about some of this adventure later.

Did you draw for elk?
I put in for that hunt quite a bit when I lived in Juneau. Never did draw. I hunted goats and deer in SE Alaska. Trying to pack an elk out in that country will be miserable x 10.
It will be very wet and foggy, brushy and steep. Tiring, hot and sweaty, cold and shivering, and dirty but it will be the best time of your life.
Deer - yes. Black bears - yes. I'm pretty sure there are wolves on the islands too.
