Martin savannah chrono results.
« on: August 15, 2014, 10:42:00 PM »
My friend and I have been running our bows on a pro chrono digital chronograph and I thought I'd post my Savannah's results.
Bow weighs out at 53.9lbs at 28. I draw 28.
470gr arrow 189fps avg 8.7GPP no cat whiskers
470gr arrow 181fps avg with cat whiskers
596gr arrow 165fps avg 11GPP with cat whiskers
367gr arrow 204fps avg only 6.8GPP so not recommended

I'm going to post more data as I get it. We have around 12 bows to test between my friend and I. Hope someone is interested. I looked for chrono data on a few bows and it's hard to find.

Indeed interesting. I would have never thought cat whiskers would reduce fps by 8

Hope you have found the peteward.com site...Pete has been testing some really interesting bows lately and he has been doing it for a long time

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

My stringmaker has proven to me over and over that be can create a string for any bow that will be hunting quiet without any type of silencing material on it...you should "not hear" one of his strings on my (soon to be his) RER LXR...your results seem to show me why that is a great idea and confirm our findings that dynamic efficiency is far more about strings than it is about bows

Cat whiskers should only be about 1.5 inches long just so you know.

I have chronograph ed bows with and without wool puffs and found so little difference that I couldn't say that it was the puffs as 1 fps could easily be the shooter, or the chronie.

I agree with BBJ--those whiskers are way too long.  That will hinder performance a tad, plus they don't work as well when left too long.

I've never tried wool puffs. I don't like the noise of bows without silencers. Will be posting about eleven more bows as I get the data together

Also so you know I normally can shoot a ten shot string and get 3 duplicate readings with a spread no more than 6 or 7 fps
