Who's coming for elk in Southern Wyo?
« on: August 20, 2014, 12:16:00 PM »
Last year things went awry and I missed razorsharptokill when he was down here. However, I'd like to try again, anyone hunting down here, Sierra's our snowies?  If so, do you know where you are camping?  It'd be fun to meet some of you.     :campfire:

I'll be just a few miles to the south of the border in the Northern end of the Zirkel Wilderness Area 8/29-9/6. I head home via Laramie and Cheyenne late the 6th or early on the 7th. If you think that time frame might work for ya shoot me a PM and we'll see if we can make it work!

I'm like stykbow67... I'll be hunting in northern Colorado and passing through Cheyenne and Laramie on the 30th of August going in and about the 17th of Sept. coming out.

I usually come in to Laramie for a feast and good nights rest about halfway through my hunt.

Met up with some other good trad folk in Walden a couple of years ago for lunch. If anyone wants to do something like that, let us know here.

I lived in Torrington for 9 months. I would have never guessed there was elk in southern WY.

Sorry I couldn't get back quicker. We have more response than I had thought id get!

Jack, I'll make sure to run you down while I'm up there, I'm bound to be in neighborhood during that time.  Funny thing is I only live a few miles from you now!

Cacciatore, I'm in the hog park area quite regular too.  How can I identify your camps?

Steve, it looks like I'll be hunting around Cheyenne the whole first week, so I'll likely miss you.  However, if you need some food or a place to rest in Cheyenne just say the word!

The walden thing sounds good. Let me see how things pan out and everyone check back in before you go out of service!  Good luck everyone!

So I have one point shy of max points where is the best odds place to go for elk/mule deer I like public land but would entertain a small trespass fee. Any place stand out ?

If somebody wants to pick a day and a time ...a weekday would be best..... I would recommend the river rock café. Neat place, good menu and the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. It is right on main in Walden, bout half way on the west side.

Rock River did have great food. I could never tell if it was because after couple weeks in the Douglas creek/Savage Run country hunting elk the food just taste better or not. Used to hunt that country a lot now Im over in the madres, so Walden is out for me.

Seems like a lot of you guys are going early. Wish you luck. I have already been hearing rumors of bugling up in the snowies.

Elkbreath I live out west of town near Table Mtn. PM me maybe we can meet up some time.

I live in Rock River but unfortunately the only good food around is the stuff my wife cooks.... The little restaurant closed down about a year and a half ago. The elk are talking a little already in the snowies. I'll be around Kennedy Peak from the 4th-14th. And Jack's camp is always a good time, especially when Sonny and Todd are around to cause some laughter!
