Hey gang,

I have a old green glass grizz I'm using for the season.
It's sorta shiney..

Do you think there will be any real improvement in "anti-glare" if I put on some limbsations?

I'm not worried about camo or looks so much.

Just would like to cut down the glare a bit ( honestly I'm not so sure I should even be worrying about it).

...don't want to paint this one as it's a decent looking bow.

Thanks

I wouldn't do it.  I had a bad experience where the limbstations caused pock marks in the finish after being on for a year or so.  This spring I had a similar issue with a long bow I was using for turkey hunting.  Ended up using camo makeup cream.  Worked ok but rubbed off easily.  You could also try shoe polish, just apply and let dry without buffing.  Paste wax might also work if you don't buff it out.

Apply paste wax and just skip the buffing.  You can buff it after the hunt or at the end of the season, and the bow will look great. (I use S.C. Johnson wax-- in a yellow can; you can get it at Home Depot, I think).  Added bonus is that it helps protect the finish.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Does the paste wax dry to a white/grey film?
I'm envisioning car wax before I wipe it off.

I scuffed down my green glassed Kodiak hunter with a scotch brite and cleared it with satin polyurethane shake spray from the hardware store. It stinks for a week or two, but gives a nice non-reflective finish.I was not worried about any perceived "collector value" because I had already cut and radiused the shelf as well as opening up and slimming the handle.   :)

That's the first bad experience I have heard with Limbsations, they have worked great for me. Could you give more details Pete?

Pete McMiller

Not many more details Paul.  Put them on and left them on for over a year, maybe even two I don't remember.  Pulled them off and sections of limb finish were pock marked.  The bow had been in the hot sun on occasion but I never thought it was excessive.  So, it's either a problem with the glue on the limbstations, or the finish that was used on my bow (I don't know what that was) or some weird reaction between the two.

With all the bows out there that have limbstations on them it would seem that we would hear more if there was a big problem.  Since I haven't heard another word I can only surmise that it's a one time problem with my bow.  Still, I would be remiss if I didn't speak up with a caution.

I don't doubt your word Pete, just thought it could have been the finish on the bow being the reason. Who knows though, maybe you just got some super sticky Limbsations, lol.

Pete McMiller

You could absolutely be right Paul no way of knowing for sure.
