curiosity killed the groundhog.
« on: August 27, 2014, 10:00:00 PM »
This whistle pig made a fatal mistake when it peaked out of its hole to see what odd human shape was standing over it in a hay field. At 5 yards my zwickey tipped heritage shaft pinned the groundhog to the hole and prevented it from getting back in its den.

The zwickey went through the corner of its jaw back into its neck, severing the spinal column and killing it instantly.

This tasty groundhog was cooked up and made into a delicious meal. My fiancé even ate it so you know It had to be good!

This is my first kill for my caribow wolverine. Im getting it all zeroed in before the opener of deer season in 4 weeks.

I wish everyone good hunting this season! Cheers SS.

Way to go SS.  I have gotten 4 like that this summer, all out of the same hole.  The first two were killed at 18 and 15 yds. The last two I missed the first shot but quickly and softly got to the hole and posted about 5 yards away. I didn't miss the second time. Three were with a 21st Century and one with a Toelke Lynx. Good shooting buddy.

Y'all eat those things ?????

Never seen one in person. They don't exist in these parts. Only ones I have ever seen are in pics here, and on TV every Groundhog Day!

Y'all really eat those things????

Congrats,

Bisch

Good shooting! I've never eaten one, I'll take your word on how good they taste. I do know it takes some pretty good skill to get one with a trad bow!

Thanks for all the kind comments.   I have problems picking a spot on groundhogs and can't tell you how many I've missed this year.  Probably upwards of a dozen or more.  With this one under my belt hopefully I can start sticking more of them

For anyone wondering, yes groundhog is a very good meat.  Think about it, they only eat the best grasses and clovers. They are a very clean animal.  The younger ones such as the one I got make excellent table fare. The older ones ground up make excellent jerky as well! I just made a batch of groundhog jerky 2 weeks ago and it was liked by everyone who tried it.  Cheers SS
