Alright, here is the story, I didn't get any pictures, due to some logistic problems, it was go go go.
Got to Montana late Thursday morning, got camp set up and had a bite of lunch. My friend who manages the hunters, was out of town elk hunting, so the place was pretty much left to me. Due to the drought conditions that have plauged the West for the last 8-10 years the "stack blind" was not there this year so I decided to go and sit in a treestand that is about a 100 yards off of the Madison River. Well the first 2 deer that came by the stand were purely practice shots (2 clean misses) and a quick reminder of the reflexes that those whitetails have! The third deer that came by didn't fair so well. The 2 bladed Magnus quickly passed through the top of the near lung and out the bottom of the far side. Watched her expire about 60 yards later. Lst year the place that I camped at had a place to hang animals, this year it was gone, so I had to find a place to get my deer hung. Fortunatly I have a friend that lives about 60 miles north and he agreed to let me hang my deer there. By the time I got the deer to Threeforks and done there it was 11:30 before I got to Ennis and to bed. 5:00 the next morning I was up and getting ready to head back in the same stand. By 7:00 the next deer was down about 70 yards from the stand. After another trip to Threeforks I hunted again that evening, with a miss. The next morning it was still blowin' hard out of the South and rain was trying to happen. I headed to the farm and sat out a passing cloud, and headed to the treestand. Things were pretty slow that morning.
It continued to rain on and off all day, by afternoon the wind was howlin', I tried to sit in the treestand but it was like being on an amusement park ride, so I headed back to camp. That night the wind was terrible, I thought my tent and myself would be in Bozeman the next morning, but it died down about 12:30 the next morning onky to be followed by pouring rain.
So the next morning I boke camp and headed to Mel's house to see what the weather was going to do. It pretty much stayed poor though Sunday, but it was then that I got an unexpected surprise. My good friend asked me if I wanted to process the deer before I left. So that is what we did all day Sunday. Monday morning I got up and headed South to hunt, but there was a front coming and the deer weren't very active. So I headed for home. The hunt ended eariler than expected, but it was a good hunt and now I will be heading back up in November.
Thanks to the good folks that kept this at the top,
