Hard Case for 3 piece
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:00:00 PM »
hi guys,

so today i received my first bow. i went with my wife's family to ETAR this year and after a few days there i bought a Little Crow bow. he shipped it to me today.

i bought a take down bow because i travel a lot. i travel on air plane and in vehicle. i have a land cruiser that i use for expedition travel. that kind of travel is extremely bumpy and all cargo is bolted or strapped down. its a bad idea to have any kind of gear in a soft case. so i need a hard case.

but space is limited inside the land cruiser. so i need the smallest case that fits my bow. i have searched this forum for some ideas and i haven't found anything i am looking for. i searched for gun cases but they seem to go from 20" wide and then jump in size to 36".

my limbs are 24" and my riser is 20". so something like 26x12x6 will work. i have searched archery and hard case websites and there is only one case that i have found that remotely fits those measurements. its this case:

 http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1650

this case is a bit tall at 10". but i was thinking that maybe i can incorporate storage for arrows inside this case since its so tall.

so my question to you veterans is: should i get this case and call it good? or is there another place i can get a case that fits my measurements that i am not aware of?

thank you for your help

I can get most of my 3-pc  LONG bows in an MTM large arrow box once the foam is removed.  They are relatively cheap on amply sturdy and light.  I wouldn't use them MTM for airline baggage because there are no locking latches, but they are fine for vehicles.  Recurves may or may not fit.  Check with 3 Rivers.

Kevin

thanks but mine is just a 94. a fj40 is just too small to haul me and my kids around with our gear. i wanted a fj60 but i dont want to ride around on leafs. so i got the fzj80. its picks up the small chatter so nice with arb 2" lift coils.

its just a mild build. chromo everything, gears, arbs, roll cage, etc...
this is my show off pic haha. this was at fordyce a couple weeks ago.

if i build a fj60, it will be ground up since the motor is a dog and i dont wanna beat my family up riding around on leafs, lol. so i would link it with chevy drive train, etc...

i am running the mojave road next week and camping for a week so i hope to have this case with me. i cant have my Little Crow bouncing around back there.

Glad to help.  Really really like that Yota.  I restored an FJ60 for a client to original factory condition.  Lovely truck.

I think I had a BJ40 really though vehicle. About the case I found a take down rifle hard case from Sportman Warehouse. It is pretty compact.

yep that sounds like a good idea. but i ponied up the dough and bought the far north archery case.

i got it last week and thought i would share. i opted for the leather and i am real pleased with it. it looks nice and has a classy feel.

it holds 6 arrows comfortably. i shoved 9 in mine    :D

it has 3 sleeves and a zip up pocket.

the pocket is big enough for 2 strings, wax container, wrench, stringer, glove, tab, arm guard, etc...

the three sleeves are for the arrows, riser and limbs. both limbs are supposed to go in sleeve but i would rather have the limbs in different sleeves than just one sleeve. the whole point of a plush hard case is to prevent damage during travel. if you put both limbs bare touching each other in one sleeve and then throw that case in the back of my truck     :knothead:    well you know there will be marks on each limb from rubbing on each other guaranteed.

but no problem, i carry a wool sock for the entire bow anyways so i put one sleeve in there and then slide it down next to the other limb. now all parts are padded, tight and secure.

all in all, great case    :)

I have a Pelican hard case and it's the best I have ever owned. Will hold arrows, TD with two sets of limbs, quiver
Glove/Tab accessories is lockable. You won't find a tougher
Better built case out there.
