Good lesson here. When you said, "The first day I called in 3 elk, all stayed out to 80 yards", this is a reminder that you will be much more successful if you put a buddy out ahead of you just off line of the bugle. Then draw him in past your buddy. Of course it depends on the terrain. Just a thought....
Looking forward to hearing the rest and maybe seeing what used that wallow!

I shot, what I thought was a great shot.  He ran for about 30 yards and slowed to a walk, he just slowly walked away like nothing had happened.  I knew I hit him but was it good, did it penetrate enough.  I have 3 videos of him walking away, close one does not upload and far one zoomed in is crappy.

I left him for about 25 minutes, he disappeared so I thought he had laid down, I walked up to check for blood at the shot site "nothing".  a little further I could here him crashing bushes, so I backed off, went and got my Dad, walked back in (40 minutes).  followed a very thin blood trail. at the end he went 90 degrees for about 40 yards and...........

Now the joy and the work begun.

sharing the moment with my 82 year old Dad!

For getting him out, it took us till 6pm, buried quad over fenders once and ran out of chainsaw gas. A 16 km walk and equal rough quad ride and he's out.

Well done,congrats.
It is all fun since you shot, then the hard part, but it will pay off during the winter dinners with your family and friends around.
