Is there good public hunting and fishing reasonably close to the town, say within 20 min drive and what about Whitetail hunting. Thanks Mike

Check out Pat's topic: Week 1 elk hunt synopsis.  I think most heading to WYO are interested because the abundance of wildlife (you name it), numerous National Forests, and federal lands ie. BLM. Take a look at the Wyo. dept of wildlife's website.

There is a lot of public land around Sheridan and Buffalo.  Some of it is a bit tough to get to because of all the private land below make access an issue.  Cloud Peak wilderness and the national forest around it are great areas.

Sheridan area has lots of state, blm, and forest land nearby. The best whitetail habitat is on private land, but there is some state land near Story that holds whitetails and turkeys, and the Vets Home in Buffalo has whitetails, mulies, antelope and turkey and is archery only. Rock Cr. has a section that has whitetails, mulies, and antelope, as does the Bud Love Winter Elk Range. Fishing? Oh yeah.
