Nice job David, I know first hand how tough the hunting has been this year good decesion to take the spike.
The rutting action around here has really turned on, saw 2 bucks on the way to church yesterday and have been getting reports of much more buck sightings and chasing going on.
This last week should be good. I even mouth grunted in a buck on Sat but no shot taken.

Yesterday was a fine example of how a couple of hot does can fill and then empty an area with bucks. In the small woods we hunted Sunday morning we saw 7 different bucks and my wife had four chasing each other and a small doe around her stand for several minutes. She got so frustrated at them not stopping for her bleats at one point she yelled "STOP" at an 8pt to no avail. I was at the other end of the woods but watched several bucks and 2 does go by. No shots taken ! We quit at 1pm then went back out 2pm until dark but didn't see but 1 deer. Same woods this morning no action.

Nice David I would rather take a spike with a bow than a ten point with something that goes boom

Congrats David. Deer were out this PM by the hundreds, unfortunately I was viewing them from a car window from the NYS thruway.

Bad shots happen. More often than one would think.
Especially on live,moving, reactionary animals.
I'm glad you were able to recover your buck!

I'm disgustipated.  I have yet to see a deer or deer movement with a bow in my hand and I'm of of bow season.

My neighbor (a compound shooter but otherwise a nice guy) is retired and has probably put in 40 hours of bowhunting and has only seen coyotes.  Looks like a bad year hereabouts.

Have seen a few after dark in my headlights along the road so I know they exist.

I saw more deer this season than ever, we had a high concentration of acorn this year and I hunted around that food source. I keep stand positioned in different areas and on different food sources because they vary from season to season and if I get a year that I'm not seeing deer I hunt someplace else where the deer are.

I had one of my best and worst days hunting today.  I saw 9 different bucks, missed one at 20 yards.  But then I hit a big 11 point at 15 yards and it seems to have been too far forward and high.  He stopped bleeding after 250 yards and I jumped him after 400 yards.  He acted as though nothing had happened. Going back tomorrow to make sure he's not laying there but I think he's fine.  This is not my year.

I had 2 doe come in to 10 yards and moving closer on my left. Would have passed me at 5 yards. Perfect scenario except that when the first one hit where I put down some estrous urine they immediately about faced.    :banghead:

I'm done using any kind of scent. I've always had better luck without them and I can't say they have ever actually worked for me.

I took a big six point on the 5th in the evening and he was following a doe. I had seen him that morning heading north and then going south looking for does I guess. I plan to write up the hunt when I get a chance.
