Put a stalk on this morning
« on: September 20, 2014, 11:32:00 AM »
Started on stand with no luck, or patience.  :)
Went creeping around the woods, checking stands, looking for sign, and enjoying the morning. Id go a little, stop, look, sit, lean and so on.
The fog this morning made for soft steps and it worked. I snuck to a thick patch and squatted down to look. I saw ears, like radars, turning in the tall grass about 30 yards away.

I needed to be closer, so I eased forward.
I was able to close the gap to 15 when I SPOTTED another bedded doe. I sat and watched for probably five minutes.

I got into position and was ready for a shot, but the grass was covering the vitals. I grabbed a twig off the ground and snapped it ever so softly.
Well that got their attention and two perfectly matched, twins stood up, spots and all.
All I could do was smile as they walked off.

Very nice!
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

Very cool. Before my kids came along, I used to still hunt and had many similar instances (as you describe) where I would be on the deer so close that seemingly I could reach out and touch them. I really loved doing that. Probably couldn't do it now  :(
Congratulations to you.... Good read  :)

Cool story.  Thanks for sharing it.  It sure is tough to pick a spot when they have so many!  :^)  -John
