Just Realized......
« on: September 26, 2014, 11:09:00 AM »
...I'm starting my 45th year of bowhunting. Where the heck did the time fly to? I know I'm standing in line behind Charlie, Ron and the Wensels but that's not too bad a line to be standing in.

Congrats Joe, I'm right there with you ... I started in the late 60's and shot my first deer, a mule deer doe in 1970.

Time does fly when you are having fun and archery truly has done that for me.

best to ya, Ken

Yep.  There are a lot of us stick shooters getting a little long in the tooth.  Though I started shooting a bow at about 7, I got my first bow license when I was 14.  Haven't missed a season since.  Will be my 54th season this year.

Started in 1968 with a Browning Nomad I bought washing dishes. Missed my first deer in 1971 and continue keep that tradition going......lol! So I guess that's 46 years for me. Took a break to hunt with wheels for a bit but never lost the urge for where I started......still have it. It's also good to know that I'm in good company.

49 years for me, although I took a few years off in the early 80's (I think- it has been too long)

Still climbing into trees occasionally, so I guess I am not doing to bad!

CONGRATULATIONS Joe!!!!!!!!!!

What many here do not know..... Is that if it wasn't for "Old Skipper" I probly wouldn't have gotten back into bowhunting some 15+ years ago!!!

I started back in the 1970's with old Bear & Pearson recurves. Switched to compounds for a few years in the late 1980's then gave up bowhunting because it was nearly MPOSSIBLE to find "traditional" equipment.

Then, Along came Skipper.....
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

Well I feel like I am in fine company, started bow hunting in the late sixties, killed my first Deer in 1971 (I think?).
Retired in June, moved back to where I grew up (Southern Illinois), after living in Colorado for the last 35 years. Looking forward to the Whitetail woods this fall.

Got 50 yrs in myself.  T

Trying to make the best of the few years I have left.  Going high tech this year, Osage self bow, wood arrows (made the shafts) that I made with turkey feathers from turkeys I killed and  stone heads that I knapped.

PS: congrats Joe Skipp

Congrats Joe!!!    :clapper:

I started bowhunting when. I was 16 years old back in 1965. Switched to trad bows in 1973 and never looked back. It's been 49 years for me. Wait, that can't be right, that would make me 65 years old    :biglaugh:   My how time flies.

Bought a bow from Earl Hoyt in 1958.  Took a few years off with a c bow, missed too many seasons being stationed overseas.  Got a Meigs bow for retirement present 18+ years ago.  Shoot at least weekly, sometimes daily.  Just relaxing!

First bow in '58. first deer '65, few years with wheels in'80's, so right there with y'all. Fine company indeed.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
