Here the white oaks have been raining down since start of the season.  Have had quite a bit of action on a couple of white oak groves.  Passed several groups of does with fawns and a young 8 point.  Rolled a dry year and a half old doe over back of my house on Oct. 8th.  6 yard shot through the center of the heart with a big Snuffer, she went about 40 yards.  20 yard drag to the pasture and the Kubota....perfect!  Saw scrapes opening up last weekend, the pickle-head youngsters are feeling itchy.

Haven't been out much this week, raining all the time and we have a calf we are having to supplement bottle feed.  Will be getting out starting this PM as the front is moving through.  I don't really expect to see any bucks worth shooting for a week or 10 days, though.

Congrats on the doe Ryan.

New moon on the 23rd is right around the corner.

"Raining acorns" is no stretch!!!   I'm hunting a woods full of White Oak and I think that is limiting a lot of travel too.

Best of luck to you, Skychief.

Not a whole lot happening over here in the N. W. corner of the state either. Hope everyone has a safe and successful season.

How does a 1 1/2 year old doe become dry??
I thought only old does were dry and used up.

Good shot on the doe, Ryan!

Been out 4 evenings, so far. Shot a small 8pt. with my fishin-pole bow, and Centaur Big Game head! First deer with a carbon arrow.

There were 5 deer, single file in the end rows of the cornfield, the buck trailing up the end. I was at the end of the main rows in the bend of the field when they past me. Shot was about 15 yds., complete pass thru.

Hunting in the corn is a favorite of mine!

This afternoon, should be good here in Indiana!

I noticed this morning, at 6:30, going to work, the moon was straight overhead. For those that follow the lunar, it will be directly below us tonight!

Also the front has pretty well pssed thru the state! Good shootin, and huntin, folks!

How about some pics Frank? I'd like to see that "fishin-pole" bow.

I do follow the lunar. I want to be out there so bad tonight but I have to get caught up on some stuff around here. Good luck!

Boy missed that forecast for sure! It's still raining here!

Bona I'll try to send a pic from my e-mail. I'm not set up with photobucket or such.

Hope for good weather this afternoon!

Yeah, dry as in not nursing fawns.  I knew which deer this was, but still watched her for a while to be sure I didn't mess up and shoot one with flippies in tow.  With the amount of pressure around here, especially during gun season, if you shoot a doe that has fawns you've pretty much given the little guys a death sentence with no wise momma to keep them out of harm's way.

That rides too heavy on my conscience, so I'm very particular about shooting dry does only.
