Well as a fwe of you know I've been working on a strip canoe for a few years now.  Long story unto itself.  I've finally gotten off my duff and I'm gonna finish the bulk of the work here in a couple of weeks.

In the mean time I needed to sharpen some plane blades and also a spokeshave blade for nocking down the highspots on my stripper.  I came along this sharpening technique

It's called the "scary sharp" method of sharpening.   Pretty snazzy deal.

I will add to it, don't bother with the edge until you're ready to hone it.  Just polish up the underside.  It works magic on both plane blades and spokeshave blades.   My next plan is to try it on my bowyers edge before rolling the edge itself over.  I want to polish the flat side, then hone it sharp in the jig nocking the burr off, then roll the edge over as per Deans instructions.   This is going to produce one HELLUVA sharp edge.   I can pop hairs easily with both the block plane and spoke shave....

here's a good link to it.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!!

I'll add to this also.....I used a big piece of glass and just held down each sheet of sanding paper.  it made it nice and kept from being messy.  The nice part is you can always move to fresh parts of the paper as needed.   This is the cats meow for sharpening plane blades!!!!

you know I was thinking, I bet this will work on the WW or snuffers....

Start with a file, then 100 grit and work progressively finer down to 1500 or 2000 grit.  Obviously there is no back to polish flat first, you're polishing each blade as you go......
