You have got to fill in some blanks like, Where, I assume you want to go trad being you are posting here, Whats your budget? are you looking to fly or drive there?, so on and so forth.....Are you in shape? Elk aren't easy to get to most of the time. This is a bucket list hunt what class bull you looking for? the questions just keep coming.

It cost me about 600.00 for a tag, about 1500 in gear, cost to drive or fly. A couple hundred to haul your gear in and a couple hundred to pack an animal out depending on your physical ability. I do not feel the need to have a drop camp if you do your homework.

DIY Colorado Elk Hunt can be done for less than $1500 with the right planning. Plenty of good areas to look at depending on your physical condition and the type of hunt you prefer to do. Add a few Buddies and it becomes even more economical. The added expense for a Drop Camp usually doesn't increase your success as much as it increases the cost of the hunt. Good Luck and start planning for 2015.

If you live in or very near elk country it does not have to be expensive. If you want a trophy class bull and live in Florida or Georgia it's gonna cost you! If you want a trophy class kill you absolutely need a guide, not a DIY affair.

Elk hunt is definitely doable on a modest budget ,just takes a little homework during the off season. I personally would do a diy hunt before hiring a outfitter, that's just me, your mileage might vary.
