Longbow and hunting
« on: October 10, 2014, 09:47:00 PM »
Well the goal is simple, shoot a deer with my Montana longbow.  So far it is not brining the luck like my Bear recurves.  I don't know if it the lower deer numbers, my luck or the longbow, but I might need to change something up to change my luck.

Would you rather hunt with a recurve or longbow?

Longbow!

I love my Black Widow longbow. But if I'd had a short recurve I'd have had two more shot opportunities last weekend...lower limb tip wouldn't clear my stand where the deer were standing.

R/D longbow is still my favorite though. Although...I'm really liking the looks of Tenbrooks 43" recurves    :bigsmyl:

My Montana has served me well this year. Have barely touched a recurve since getting the longbow.

Yes!
I had a really good group going... until I shot the second arrow.

My best bows are the ones someone else didn't want.

I prefer a short longbow. Esp. my Timberghost Smoke. Man I love that bow! Best of all worlds for me.

a classic length longbow limits me in the treestand it must be my technique and I'm sure I can practice all the crazy shots but the longer lower limb hits stuff and where I like to have my stands tucked in among some of the branches it can hit them at release,,, a recurve in the tree is much more versatile because of its size.

classic size longbow on the ground though feels much better than the recurve,, when I have a recurve I almost feel like I might as well have a compound it just feels super modern to me because of the grip and riser this does not include a 50's style.

what I really need is one of those super short 56-58 longbows that I've yet to try,,, so I will shout out for hunting trees and ground short longbow.

Longbow only for me. All of them are 64" or 66"
I use a loc on stand and like to get in the gnarly nasty trees for cover. Don't have problems with the longbow

I like longbows.  Been quite awhile since I shot a recurve.

I don't have a preference. I don't think its the bow or luck.  If it is luck, maybe your wife is having all of it lol just sayin.   :dunno:

Loving my longbow. I was worried about the length at first because its 68" and I was used to my 60" R/D longbow. I was afraid that 68" would be absurd in the woods. Then I stood them up by each other and had an "ah-ha" moment. The R/D tips remain fairly straight upwards as it flexes inward where as my D shaped longbow the tips bend inward. The result was the 8" longer Vixen was only really a couple inches at most taller than my R/D. Limbs hitting things is a conscious effort regardless of the bow for me. Id say hunt with whatever bow you like most and shoot best.
