Yeah! disformed, non-typical racks do it for me. As we don't see them much around here. Thats exactly what got the buck I shot killed this year. Way bigger bucks lurking around my haunts but when I saw all the junk I instantaneously went into kill mode.

Very much a personal decision though.

It sure is tough to make a decision at home for a "trophy" only and then be out and have something come along that puts the "resolve" to the test.
The key for me is not to be disappointed with the animal I kill. As in, "but I was going to wait for a big one"...
I've eaten the tag soup waiting too long and as we all know, that taste leaves something to be desired.
I like the "depends on the day" comment. First light of the first day a fella might make any sort of disappointing decisions. The no meat freezer, last day scenario is to be avoided at all costs, though.

It depends?  Given a clear shot at a comfortable distance, I would probably take it.

If I was on a hunt where I traveled to and was seeing deer all the time, I might not fill in order to continue hunting.

Many things come to mind when people consider taking one animal or another.

I am a traveling hunter by choice. I have great hunting here at home, but don't partake much in the deer until it cools here and by then, they can't be found.
Also too often given the choice of work on the weekends when there are few things to interrupt me or hunt, I unfortunately choose to work most of the time.
These reasons are part of why I enjoy traveling to hunt. Combine that and the opportunity to see things that you don't see everyday make trips extra special...oh yeah, I certainly don't mind getting my hands a little bloody too.

I am planning a moose hunt for 2016 and I am confident that I won't shoot anything that I wouldn't consider a "mountable" trophy. I love moose meat but the difference between taking a moose home and watching it leave is about $1200 + dollars in extra moose airfare and shipping. I already know that I will have a great time because I always do even if I don't kill something.

You want to avoid the bitter taste of tag soup?
Don't eat the dang thing!  The cost of the tag is the price you pay for a ticket to the show.

I would, I have a ton of nice typical bucks. I like the non-typical and find people comment more about them. A trophy is in the eye of the beholder.

If I had traveled for the hunt, I would probably pass. If it was my home covers, I would probably drop the string.  I hunt home mostly for meat, and in my home covers I have found if I pass, I don't see another deer.
