Ground Hunters Seat... Great Product

This is my 2nd season using this product and I really like it. I move around alot and this seat, sets up in seconds, its light weight, and its EZ to set up. I added a "Therma Seat" cushion for more comfort butt... to each his own.

How heavy or light is this?  I have a Nifty Seat that works real well.  I use a therma seat with that, too.  I've been thinking about one of Big Jim's seats, too.  Thanks for the review.

Big Jim's website says 4 lbs.  Seems heavy for what it is.  My SWAG is that he's overstated the weight (at least a little) so nobody complains that it's an ounce over stated weight.

I replaced the seat on mine with some industrial strength birch plywood and some heavy duty foam  

Even though I way a ton, I ain't got a lot of arse for cushion.
It was fine before, but it is better now.

Both my brother and I toted ours all over the mountains of Montana. Every time we came back to camp, seems as though we would lighten the pack some, but we never left the seats behind.

When in open country, we had them tied to the back of our frame packs. In the timber with all the blow downs, we used them extensively as walking sticks.

I doubt they really weigh 4lbs..I would guess 3lb tops.

I agree with BigJim on the weight. Mine doesn't feel like no 4#'s.

The best thing about these seats is how they can be used regardless of how uneven the ground is. Setting up a bucket or other legged seats so you can lean back against a tree is tough. You usually have to prepare a level spot or find another tree. Other than kicking away the leaves there is nothing to set up, just take it off your shoulder and lean it against a tree. Done.

I use mine all the time. Like others mentioned, the padded seat is not too swift. I removed the thin pad and added a double thickness Therma Seat and trimmed it to size. I also covered the frame with pipe insulation and secured it with zip ties. It added no weight and prevents accidental pings if bumped.

I typically stand every hour or so just to stretch my legs, but I would do that with any seat. With a tree as a backrest and an extra pad for your butt you can sit comfortably for an evening hunt, no problem.

Sat on one all day last season.  I loved it! I was very comfortable leaning back against a tree.  It's a very stable setup just sitting normally with your legs under you and I was surprised how easily I could swing around to take a shot sideways if I had to.  Also made a great walking stick.  Check it out:

I love the convenience of the seat, very easy to carry.  I don't notice it on my back when I walk into the area that I am hunting, which is approximately 3/4 of a mile walk.  The only thing I would change is make the seat a little larger and add some heavy duty foam.

Does the angle of the seat change when adjusting seat height? Looks like the seat is fixed in one position. Am I overlooking something? Thanks

Huron, yes - the seat is fixed to the central post.  To adjust the seat height, you have to either increase or decrease the angle of the whole thing.  I like being able to sit low or high depending on what is needed.  You can set it so high that you can use it to really just lean against and not fully sit - almost like a full standing position.  If you get tired that way, then you can just lower it and fully sit.  Big Jim has a video of him using one on his site.

I have one, too, and I like it a bunch. I do, however, need to add cushion because, like BigJim, I don't have much arse.

This evening I slung mine over my shoulder and headed to the back woodlot to intercept several deer I saw using a trail on Monday. I had no prepared spot but knew about where I needed to be. I chose and set up on three different trees in less than 5 minutes 'til I found the perfect spot. Totally silent with minimal effort. Try that with a bucket or stool.

Unfortunately, the deer decided to use another trail 150 yards from me. I didn't even mind, I was pretty comfortable sitting there enjoying the woods.

Maybe we could get one of these tree seats painted up to look like CORN! boy would that help the hunt    I might have to try that.

just ordered one, hope it works well (6'6" and 230). Right now I use a fold up stool. It's good for about 15 minutes, before my back aches.
