Torges Seat
« on: October 19, 2014, 09:36:00 AM »
Don't know why I didn't make one of these before. Effective, lite, simple....
Rainy day project, had some 3/4 oak ply left over from a hope chest I made for my daughter. some rope, prussic knot and a Sam Adams. Ready to use.

Nice, Rooster! I just made one a couple of weeks ago, 'been trying it out, taking some practice shots etc., out in the woods.
I really like the Prussic idea and thicker rope. That's clever.
Still have a good scrap of plywood, I think I'll tweak my basic design some and do another.

Once you use that for a while you will love it. I have made several and made a few that fold so they would fit in a pack. They just plane work!    Nice job!!

I liked the one I made for myself so much that I made several for my friends.

A must have for any ground hunter.

I use mine a lot . Forget to bring it to Maryland so have been using the seat from my lone wolf hand climber . It worked good .

fellas, what i do is there are two holes for the prussic side. i do two overhand figure 8 knots(overkill) on the bottom side. undo the knots, rope comes free.
i did rig it with a carabiner, but found it made a lot of noise bumping it.

slowbowjoe the thicker rope REALLY grabs the tree too. i also cut a 1/2 inch rubber hose and used self tapping sheet metal screw to secure it to the seat, this really cuts the noise and helps grip.

I finally cut one of mine in half and put a hinge on it.

I use an alternative method of adjusting the rope. A search of this forum will produce several different customizations.

This year, I used mine on a 3" tree in a marshy area where a regular seat wouldn't have worked very well. A couple of wraps around the tree, and I was good to go.

Son of Rooster, just a suggestion but make a small loop in the seat and carry the caribiner in your pocket to hook the small loop to the prussik knot. Much quicker and more secure than tying and untying knots in the field in the dark.

I loved mine so much.  I just made a new one, I added a hunting cushion, a pouch on the bottom, splurged and used a ascender and caribiner, major upgrade, lol.  will try and get a pic.
