are there many hogs where the hunt will be taking place?

Night Hawk,

Yes....the corp at Wappapello knew of about 300 hogs killed/trapped last year.  That is just what people told them about.  The hog population is growing and expanding as we speak.

I shot 3 last year myself....140# boar, 160# sow, and 250# sow.  They were all with a gun.....but I plan to fix that little problem!!!

Now....I cant promise you a hog.....but it will be a good time...LOL :^)

I plan to set up several bait stations right after archery season.....(If anyone that is close can help that would be great) to try to get more of a pattern to the hogs.  They move around a lot when pressured....so I will keep up to date on hog movement and sightings.

All anybody from out of state needs is a desire to hunt and equipment!!!

thanks

Is this going to be a public land hunt, I assume?  What is the hog population like down there?

citori -- Could some of us non-locals possibly help with the costs of baitstations???  When does your archery season end?  We might could come up and help set them out as well. We're only about 2 hours away -- give or take.

count me in and possibly another person or two. Cabin sounds good less hassle. When do we have to have the cabin bookedby?

I assume this is a public land hunt?  How is the pig population down there?  I have always wanted to hunt hogs.  Sounds like fun!!

Yes....this will be on public land.  Missouri department of conservation, and Army corp of engineers land.  There is about 50,000acres in all

As far as the population all I can say is that I killed some last year (when I was hunting them) and saw them while hunting several times.  They are in pockets and you just have to scout like hunting anything else.  The guys that are after them have some success.  A lot of them are killed by guys deer hunting.  They are there....just gotta get on em....BUT it is not Texas;^)

I am going to put out bait stations after archery season is over (over on 1/15/07).  I am going to use plastic pipe feeders.  100' roll is @$25 and use corn as bait.  THe cheapest I have found it is $4 for 50#.  I am also going to try using fish carcasses as a bait method.(littlefeathers suggestion from last year) I would like to set up @ 10 different stations.  I will bait using both my boat to access from the lake and also pack in bait using my backpack.  I might also use horses to pack in some bait!!!  Depends on the situation.

For the guys that have offered to help setup bait stations....that would be great.  We will need to set them up ASAP after Jan. 15th.  If the hogs start hitting them 50# of corn will not last long.  They will have to be checked on a weekly basis.  This is also a double edged sword.....this is public land and any bait station can be hunted by anyone......so the longer the stations are out the better the chance that it will be found/hunted by others........

Any help from the guys that are located close would be great!!!!

lodging should NOT be a problem!!!  Millers has both cabins and rooms.  They will be able to handle all of us them some!!!  If you want to call them and get rates I will look up the number.  It would be my suggestion because it is centrally located to the hunting.

It is Millers Motor Lodge....Wappapello Missouri phone# 573-222-8579

thanks

Citori, I am 80 miles away.  I can make a day of setting up.  Let me know when you want to go.  I do need about a week or 2 of planning (Wife in school).  But I am willing to help.

I guess I better get practicing.  Have been in the process of switching to full traditional for about a year and a half.  With the shortage of time to practice I always seem to revert back to the training wheels.  This may be some good insentive to make time to practice.
