silencing a clicker
« on: October 21, 2014, 02:37:00 PM »
For those of you who shoot with a clicker what do you do to silence or quieten it. I tried wrapping a bit of tape around it but there was no effect.

Do a search there are a few threads on how to do them. I use fleece and moleskin. And Kelly,  some of us have to use them to enjoy our passion.

Moleskin is what I use. Electrical tape will kill the click almost entirely when the weather gets really cold. Just my experience.

It sounds like whatever material you use isolates the metal parts from each other. Am I reading this right???

Yep. And helps quiet the spring steel.

I try to quiet mine some, but don't worry about it too much. I have yet to have a deer or hog spook that i've drawn on.

soft side Velcro with the adhesive back placed on the blade will soften the click.

Now, I don't even use the Velcro, the click is the last thing an animal hears before it dies.
I have never had an animal react negatively to a clicker.

I agree with Fritz.  I use a piece of moleskin on the clicker piece.

Kelly, I would give anything if I could "take it off" but it is clear that you ain't been there.  :(

I second the soft velcro, and definitly lose the chain, string only, I can feel mine more than hear it.

Thanks folks.
I tried some fleece with a sticky back but it had little effect. So I switched to sticky-back soft Velcro. Wow what a difference. You can feel it going off but all you hear is the softest "tunk".

Be sure to try it cold... Oh yeah... I've had sticky Velcro get to stiff and it won't click at all... Not good if drawing down on a big 'un
