Schafer limbs
« on: October 22, 2014, 08:28:00 AM »
Going to be putting in an order for some short limbs for my 17" riser. Just wondering if anyone has experience the "new" carbon limbs offered by Dave. I guess I'm trying to find someone who's shot the standard limbs in comparison with the carbon. Were the limbs a bit stiffer? Louder? Thanks ahead for chiming in.  Steve

Read my review by using the search feature for "King of Beasts" on Pow Wow.  The carbon is a $250 option that to me is well worth it if you're looking for an 'even' quieter, more forgiving, and quicker Schafer and have it in your budget.  The standard 'curves are world class, the double carbon is a new level and quite enjoyable.  The bow I had the honor of trying had black glass faces on the limbs but looked really mean with wood tip overlays that matched the riser with carbon accents.

Thanks for replying Chuck. I did read your review. Wasn't sure if you'd had former experience with standard limbs. I apologize if I missed that. Can you get a carbon core? And can you skin the back if it is carbon? Never seen it done.

I have shot both and did like the carbon! I would shoot either though. The biggest difference I noticed was the smoothness of draw and slightly more stability. No difference on noise

Yeah, I have owned one of the standard models as well.  I'm not sure about the "core", but on the carbon bow from the review the carbon layers were sandwiched around the bamboo core...back to belly it was black glass, carbon, bamboo core, carbon, black glass.

It was obvious that the black glass was a very thin single layer and essentially cosmetic.  For the weight the limbs were MUCH thinner in cross section than a standard bow would be.  The standard glass bow I owned which was 52# had much much thicker cross section limbs VS the 62# carbon bow.  Quite impressive.

I don't see a problem skinning the limbs.  I bet Dave could do an exotic veneer on the belly side and skins on the back side for a stunning carbon killer.

I believe so, but best bet is to email Beth/Dave @ Schafer and confirm.
