New guy from TN
« on: October 30, 2014, 01:26:00 AM »
Hello everyone! I'm somewhat new to traditional archery. I have been shooting compounds for a few years, but I have always had an interest in traditional bows, equipment, and skills. I like the simplicity of it all. Last year I got a very nice Dwyer Original Longbow, and I love it more every time I shoot it.

This year I had my season cut very short with another deployment, missed last season completely as well, but I did practice a good deal with my compound and here and there with my longbow. I had the chance to go hunting twice and came to the simple realization that less is more. Carrying all the unnecessary gadgets, what-ifs and heavy compound bow seemed to take away from the experience of hunting.

I enjoy shooting my longbow much more than the compound even though I am not as accurate with the longbow. So, upon my return from Africa I fully intend to immerse myself into traditional archery and sell the compound. Thus leading me here, a great site I come upon every time I research anything traditional. I am certain from my lurking on here that everyone will gladly help me along on my journey to happier hunting.

Welcome and thanks for your service. Enjoy the ride when you get back and have fun with your lb.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

What part of TN?  There are three great clubs (that I know of--probably more) that are all-traditional.

In West TN, you have Lost Tribe Traditional Archers.  In Middle TN, there's Twin Oaks Bowhunters.  In East TN, you have Ye Olde Fartes.  All three put on some great tournaments--tons of fun.

Good luck!

Chad

Welcome. Always great to have a convert to traditional equipment. Dwyers make a great bow for a great price to, excellent choice.
