Euro mount Aussie style
« on: October 30, 2014, 05:47:00 AM »
Hey Fellas,
I have been meaning to make up a base for the euro skull I had from my big billy from the story
 http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=091265

A mate from work cuts a lot of firewood, and I told him what I was after so he kindly obliged.
A nice wedge of River Redgum  (Eucalyptus camuldalensis) with a bit of burl in it. I hit it with the plane and then the sander, and a few coats of oil later and here's the result

I drilled a hole in it and put a length of rod through it to hold up the skull and the result looked pretty good to me.

Hope you like it,
Memo.

Really well done!

That's beautiful and the pic is a nice addition. What a hunk of wood and horn!

I think you should have mounted the skull on the wall next to the plaque. A shame to cover that burl up.
